Getting to Banks Track

Getting to Banks Track is easy.

Banks Track is in the southeast corner of Banks Peninsula, Canterbury, New Zealand.

Getting to Banks Track

By private car

Akaroa is a scenic 85km drive from Christchurch. Travel along the Chch-Akaroa Highway, allowing 90 mins to get to the Banks Track pick up point.

Petrol and refreshments are available at Tai Tapu, Little River, and Duvauchelle along the way. Also Little River Gallery and Barrys Bay Cheese factory are well worth a visit.

By Public Transport from Christchurch to Akaroa and return

Regular bus services are provided by Akaroa Shuttle and French Connection bus companies. These services both depart Christchurch in the morning so please ensure you have checked their timetable prior to making your Banks Track or flight bookings.

If you require a ChCh / Airport pickup contact Philip Narbey directly at pmnarbey@hotmail.com. Philip has a tour van and can organise this for you.

All the bus/taxi services drop you off within 50m of the Akaroa old Post Office – the Banks Track pick up point.

What Akaroa has to offer:

Akaroa offers visitors views of the inner harbour surrounded by the rim of an extinct volcano. Within this setting are cafes and restaurants. These provide a choice of food, coffee, and both local and international wines. There are shopping opportunities, postal services, bicycle hire, walking options, harbour tours, both on the water and on the land, and a range of accommodation choices. See Akaroa.com for more information.

Many people living and working within Akaroa and the bays have a strong conservation conviction. Some of these stories are here and here.

You can park your car at Mt Vernon Lodge while you are walking the Banks Track.

Pick up, 5.30pm at Akaroa’s Old Post Office, 80 Rue Lavaud.
